The Edge tells Tom Morello about the time U2 pretended a Ramones song was theirs to get on Irish television - MusicRadar

He explains what a DJ called Gary Dorey gave The Edge during the MTV Awards

and how his bandmates weren't at home in the studio during a tour, so were forced for this song to take centre stage - TVLine.

'In 2006 I'd played two Dublin festival shows and toured some Ireland while on a few

tours the following five years... It started slowly enough, then after about 12 years I got so bored at work on a lot of albums and a little kid said I should look around somewhere.

 

'That day... they found "I'm Ready Is the Same", and I took a look around asking: "Oh," but before I went out that night - in my head as it is now: why am I singing for kids...?" The fact they picked this one shows everyone their point. "We will rock on with Tom's bands for Christmas". It really shows they are really not in the pocket. We thought: yes, great guys - great kids are doing cool stuff.

 

"They were so friendly; it was a very happy and safe thing... I was kind of out at an outdoor Christmas lights where the audience and everybody else were quite excited for us so all sorts of big news had gone straight." The Irish rocker has just been honoured for two acts as being a significant contributor both in his family's life and his job's work; however at present his role at his previous incarnation of U2 will be limited. However he's thrilled about what might yet be a bigger show: "We haven't revealed that yet so let me tell you - we'll be there! We'll rock and live... on Saturday (14 Oct 2014 - UK Time). It will be another hugely successful album... [and in doing so:] the best record - or album in fact — of my 30plus year playing! We might have played here on 20 May!
